live|work apply Service Design to The Green Deal

Helping the Green Building Council improve the success of their new policy, a pay as you save finance for home energy efficiency

During December 2011 live|work, the Green Building Council (GBC) and a room of industry experts applied a service design approach to The Green Deal. The Green Deal is a new environmental policy from the Department for Energy and Climate Change; a ‘pay as you save’ finance for home energy efficiency.

At it’s simplest, you (the customer) get finance for your home energy efficiency work, you pay for the work through your electricity bill, paying less (per week) than the amount you save and if you move home the charge stays with the house.

live|work’s goal was to improve the chances of the Green Deal being a success with UK consumers.

To achieve this live|work helped GBC to map the high-level customer journey across the key policy areas, and then identified possible issues across the journey with the application of four household ‘personas’. With the help of experts we generated ideas to address the main issues, enabling us to make policy recommendations and delivery recommendations for an improved service experience for the customer.

The policy is due to launch in Autumn 2012.
